The Nikon D3100 Digital SLR Camera (Red) is an affordable, compact, and lightweight photographic power-house. It features the all-purpose 18-55mm VR lens, a high-resolution 14.2 MP CMOS sensor along with a feature set that's comprehensive yet easy to navigate - the intuitive onboard learn-as-you grow guide mode allows the photographer to understand what the 3100 can do quickly and easily.
However, if you primarily plan to shoot video it could be difficult to capture smooth footage since the Nikon D3100 doesn’t have built-in stabilization. PROS. The Nikon DX Micro 40mm f/2.8 is one of the best value macro lenses for the Nikon D3100 given its price point, focal length, minimum focusing distance, and how fast it’s.
And D3100 is cheaper than T1i/T2i so it is best value for money. I am using D3100 a lot now and I have to say I made the correct choice. It captures awesome snaps. Its auto focus is OK- not perfect but not bad. It has great HD video feature but I dont shoot video a lot so I dont care on it.
Never used that one before. No. I don't recommend the D3100 at all. The D3100 was a great choice in 2010 but it's quite dated now. Keep in mind many of the features that made the D3100 such a hit in 2010 (live view, manual controls for video) are now standard on pretty much every entry level DSLR now.

As for Active D-Lighting, if you shoot RAW and do not use Nikon’s Capture NX2 product, you should just turn it off. For all other cases, leaving Active D-Lighting On works great.
